FoVeg live in Berlin

We had the BEST gig in Berlin the other night. Just have to share this video of the bouncing crowd at our first ever gig in Germany! Thanks to everyone who came and to the awesome JPOD for Djing!

Kids Permaculture Funk-Electroswing Album!

Well, as if life couldn’t get any more exciting, we’ve just embarked on a mission to produce the RADDEST KIDS’ PERMACULTURE ALBUM EVER MADE! Have a gander and lettuce know what you think:

Ever since the beginning of Formidable Vegetable Sound System, we’ve believed that music is by far the funnest way to learn stuff and that’s why we’ve been touring the world for the past three years singing songs about permaculture in the hope of inspiring people to start growing food everywhere and to take better care of the planet!

After having heaps of fun with grown-ups at festivals, we’ve decided that the people who need to hear about this stuff next are KIDS and so we’ve decided to record a brand new bunch of electroswing/funk ukulele tunes geared around getting ideas about growing good food, good vibes and good fun across to children (and still adults too, of course!)

We’ve started up a crowdfunding campaign to help get the ball rolling, so you can preorder a copy of the album before it’s even been made , which would be an incredible help to us!

To find out more about the project, head to our Pozible project page, or check out the little video we made below:

The Edge (Spoonbill Remix) – New Track and Video Clip

The time has come for us to unleash the stompworthy sounds of our latest remix single of “The Edge”, masterfully sliced, diced and phattenated by Melbourne’s finest electro-wonkstep producer, Spoonbill. Wrap your listening gear around it (along with two other bonus tracks) here.

As if that wasn’t enough to make you froth, check out the psychavegedelic music video created by Melbourne’s master of animated visual stimuloids, Dropbear – who also animated our Yield clip:

The Edge (Spoonbill Remix)” is the first of seven more tracks to come with the forthcoming remix album, “Radish Beets”, out July 10. The album will be launched at Bar 303 in Northcote, Melbourne with special appearances from the cerebrally-heightened rap lords, Hugo & Treats as well as Mal Webb & Kylie Morrigan.

We’re stoked to present the latest video clip to our song “Limits”, lovingly animated by the talented Oz Thomas for a special launch on World Environment Day (June 5th). Please it share far and wide and don’t forget to “Apply self-regulation and accept Feedback!”

Boomtown Fair 2015 with Caravan Palace

We’re super excited to announce that as a part of our upcoming European tour, we’ll be playing at the UK’s maddest festival – Boomtown Fair from August 13th-16th alongside John Butler Trio, Golgol Bordello and one of our all-time favourite electroswing bands, Caravan Palace!

If you or your friends are in the neighbourhood of Winchester, Hampshire this European summer, we hope to see you down on Mayfair Ave with your dancing permaculture overalls on for a little ol’ hoedown!

Introducing: Our newest member

Meet out latest band member – this beautiful Tasmanian Blackwood & Mulga soprano ukulele made by Paul Henneberry of The Jarrahdale String Instrument Company. She hasn’t got a name yet (I’m sure one will sing it’s way out before long) but she is an absolute stunner and sounds as good as she looks! Paul has been a supporter of Formidable Vegetable Sound System since the very beginning and has been spreading the permaculture and ukulele vibes around far and wide. He lovingly crafted this uke over the past few months and gave it to Charlie on the weekend in Fremantle.

She’ll definitely be making it onto the stage for special occasions (and the new album for sure!) although the old Rocky Creek Strings battleaxe is still going strong and holding up to many a travel-induced beating.

The trusty old uke now mainly held together with epoxy.

Much gratitude to Paul for his amazing generosity and dedication. An absolute legend and crazy talented uke-maker!

Some remixes so far…

Things are chugging along nicely with the Permaculture Remixed project! If you want in, there is still three weeks left to bust out a track! Just download the stems here and get crankin!

Here are a couple that some crew have submitted so far:

Keeping Busy in Brissy

Adobe Photoshop PDFWe’ve got a big weekend lined up with Island Vibe Festival on Stradbroke Island kicking off on Friday the 31st alongside Finley Quaye, Archie Roach and Hugo & Treats.
Straight after that, we’re back to the mainland for Rock For The Reef – a benefit gig to help save the Great Barrier Reef from the destruction that the government and various mining companies have planned for it. Featuring Ash Grunwald, The Medics, The Resin Dogs and a whole bunch more awesome acts, this will be one Brissy show not to miss!

On Sunday, we’re ducking down to the Gold Coast for a cozy little gig called Circle of Friends, put on by our lovely friends, Hussy Hicks.

If you’re in the area, come say g’day!

New Track: SOS: Save Our Seeds (feat. Vandana Shiva)

We’re ecstatic to announce that, for the first time in two years, we FINALLY have completed a new track! It’s aim is to celebrate the global Seed Freedom movement and the real food heroes who are growing gardens, saving seed and standing up to biotech giants such as Monsanto, who are doing their best to control the global food supply through genetically modifying and patenting seed.

Featuring a remixed interview we did with global food activist, Vandana Shiva in 2013 at the National Heirloom Expo in Santa Rosa, California and a chant from the 2013 March Against Monsanto in San Francisco, (“Hey, hey! Ho ho! We don’t wan’t your GMO!”), we’re offering up these tasty electro-swing dance-ukulele beets as a free download (or pay what you feel) here so that it might spread around the world as a protest against biopiracy and farmer enslavement.

Thanks to the incredible co-producers who gave this track their artful touch including Shifteq, Fred Wobbler (Lubdub), Jim Moynihan (Spoonbill) and (the aptly named) Bodhi Seed.

Please check it out, share it with your friends, send it out on the airwaves or spin it at your next dance party!
