ABOUT FORMIDABLE VEGETABLE SOUND SYSTEM

“So infectious that the most ardent climate sceptic would have trouble staying still”- Sydney Morning Herald

PRESS PLAY AND LISTEN WHILE YOU READ:

Possibly the only band in the world promoting the joys of climate change adaptation, permaculture principles and frugal hedonism through dance music, Western Australia’s Formidable Vegetable Sound System are the world’s most whack experiment in ‘ecological electroswing’. With high-energy live shows consisting of glitchy bass beets, ukulele jazz chops, violin shredding and hyperactive horn playing, the band has only one goal: to pound simple solutions for sustainability deep into your consciousness in the funkiest way possible.

Having made it into every corner of the globe over the past four years from Glastonbury Festival to the headquarters of the United Nations, Formidable Vegetable Sound System is paving the way with their special brand of musical activism towards simple solutions to some of the worlds’ biggest problems and are rapidly becoming a favourite on the Australian and international festival circuits, having played at Woodford Folk Festival (Queensland), Rainbow Serpent (Victoria), BOOM Festival (Portugal), Shambhala (Canada), Symbiosis (USA), Boomtown Fair (UK) plus many more alongside acts such as Fat Freddy’s Drop, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Thom Yorke and The Rolling Stones.

Realising that music is one of the best tools for bringing about cultural change, Formidable Vegetable Sound System frontman, Charlie Mgee has dedicated his musical mission to composing swingin’ tunes on a ukulele about plants, peak-oil and permaculture – among other things – with the intention of inspiring folks to create the sustainable world they want to live in starting with their own front yards.

Joining him in the band is Mal Webb on slide trumpet & trombone, Kylie Morrigan on violin, Tim Bennett on drums and DJ Winx on the beets.
